Basic experience short of the time paid - I will not return
| | Happy Ending |
A couple of weeks ago, I'd had a fairly stressful week, so having Friday off work I decided to take my first trip to Rainbow Spa off the back of a recent fairly positive thread on the WYSG.
Let's start with the positives. The place was easy to communicate with - I sent a text (I prefer to text rather than call to avoid possibly interrupting someone else's service) which was quickly responded to, agreed a time and a price for a one hour booking and left it at that. Rainbow Spa is really easy to find - it is in a small "courtyard", down a side street off a main road, with lots of on-road parking close by. There were some builders working directly opposite the spa entrance when I visited which was a little offputting, but I don't know anyone in the Wakefield area and so it wasn't too much of a problem.
On arrival, at the top of the stairs, I was greeted by two friendly women - one of whom (I asked her name and she told me it was "Katie") quickly took me into a small room and asked me to undress. The price paid was £45 for one hour. The lady was quite friendly and chatty, but her English wasn't the best and so we struggled to understand each other beyond a few words and phrases. She wore a face mask throughout the session, which made it even more difficult. The massage itself was reasonable, although not the best I've had - compared to others I've had in the past at similar oriental places, it felt a little amateurish.
On two or three occasions during the massage, her mobile phone rang and she spoke at length to another gentleman who was trying to negotiate a booking, while half-heartedly rubbing me with one hand - it isn't very relaxing to listen to a booking being made at length during a massage and this affected the whole experience. There were another two to three periods where she was using one hand to "massage" me while texting.
After a while I was turned over and I was immediately asked whether I wanted any extras - the usual £20 for hand relief or £40 for body-to-body. There was no massage on my front - it was straight to the extras. I've never had a particularly satisfying experience with body-to-body in these places - it tends to be a bit underwhelming and times are tough - so I opted for the happy ending which was delivered with some skill (more than the massage!) and I got my relief fairly rapidly all over my stomach.
At this point there were fifteen minutes or so left in the booking. I like a little "aftercare" after I finish - a few minutes of light relaxing touch while I come down (which, with time left, I don't think was unfair) - and I tried to make this clear to her, but she either didn't understand or pretended not to understand because she wanted to rush me out and so it didn't happen - there was a cleanup with tissues and then I was asked to get up and dress.
Overall, this was a basic experience with a friendly pleasant masseuse, albeit with very poor English. But the time she spent on the phone (which in my view is time not spent on me - given the half-heartedness of the service while she's using the phone - and the fact that the session ended over ten minutes before my hour was up (my pet hate!) meant that I probably won't return to Rainbow - between all the phone calls and the early finish, I probably lost about a quarter of my one hour booking.
